Participation in the SPLASH Challenge begins with a simple yet effective self-assessment process. Your organization will form a diverse team to evaluate your current water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities and practices using our easy-to-complete self-assessment form. This process helps identify key challenges and opportunities for improvement.

Once you have submitted your completed self-assessment, ApA will review all submissions and select a group of institutions to take part in a follow-up workshop. During this workshop, your team will receive practical, technical and methodological guidance on how to develop a robust project proposal based on the results of your self-assessment. These proposals will compete for SPLASH Challenge funding to help you implement significant improvements in WASH.

Together, walk around your institution’s premises, observe the water supply, sanitation and hygiene practices, and take photos as necessary. Complete the self-assessment form honestly and in full. This process should take less than an hour.

3. Submit your form
Please send your completed self-assessment to splash@aguaporagua.com until 30 June 2026, at 11.59 pm. Please ensure your submission includes all the necessary information and photos.

About the SPLASH Challenge

O Desafio SPLASH é uma iniciativa da ÁGUA POR ÁGUA (ApA), organização moçambicana da rede internacional WATER FOR WATER (WfW).
The programme is based on a simple principle: the people who live and work in an institution are best placed to identify its problems and find the right solutions. ApA provides the methodology, training and funding. The institutions do the rest.

This participatory approach ensures that ASH improvements are sustainable, inclusive, and tailored to the specific circumstances of each community.

This initiative draws inspiration from and is based on the methodological guidelines of the ‘Toilets Making the Grade’ project.
